About the Founder
Nachiappan Elango
Nachiappan Elango is the founder and principal consultant of Aegis Marine Consultancy, established in 2015. He leads the firm’s naval architecture, vessel design, and marine surveying activities across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chennai, and international projects.
His foundation in naval architecture was built through specialized training at Hindustan Shipyard Ltd. (HSL) and the Hydrodynamics & Instrumentation Laboratory at IIT Madras during his undergraduate studies. After graduation, he gained experience with leading ship design companies and shipyards before establishing Aegis Marine Consultancy.
With hands-on experience in commercial small craft, high-speed passenger ferries, multihull stability, and composite and aluminium vessel engineering, Nachiappan combines sound hydrodynamic principles with practical knowledge of vessel construction, shipyard fabrication, and class approval requirements. This enables him to approach vessel design with both technical precision and a clear understanding of how designs perform in the real world.
